Tax & FAQ

Q. Do I need an ABN?

Australian residents who provide a valid ABN receive the full amount. Without an ABN, you can accept the ATO 'Statement by a Supplier' (hobby / non-business) to be exempt from withholding. With neither, 47% is withheld.

Q. What is the 47% withholding?

Under Australian tax law, payments to a supplier who does not quote an ABN are subject to 47% PAYG withholding remitted to the ATO. Add an ABN or supplier statement in your profile to avoid it.

Q. Can non-residents of Australia earn?

Yes. If you are not an Australian resident and did not carry out the activity in Australia, Australian withholding does not apply. You remain responsible for tax in your country of residence.

Q. Who reports the tax?

You are responsible for your own income tax and, where applicable, GST on what you earn. This is general information, not tax advice โ€” consult a registered tax agent about your situation.
